Sisterhood: What it looks like for our chapters
Delta Zeta:
Every semester, the Delta Zeta Sisterhood Chair and Academics Chair collaborate to create a “Relaxation Day.” Our Relaxation Day allows our sisters to relax and decompress from the stress they endure before finals. For the Spring 2019 semester, our relaxation day focused on mindfulness and self-care. Our sisters wore their comfiest clothes so that they could be as comfortable as possible. Before we started, we all took five minutes to close our eyes and take deep breaths while playing relaxing music and diffusing essential oils. During this time, we all decided on what we wanted to accomplish that night. Some girls wanted to spend time with sisters and create memories, while others were there to take a break from the reality of college life. We made bath bombs and sugar scrubs and also colored mandala coloring pages. Towards the end, we partnered up with another sister to make avocado face masks, and then we put them on each other. While we waited for our masks to dry, we listened to a 10 minute guided meditation on practicing self-awareness, leaving many sisters feeling relaxed and rejuvenated afterward.
Sigma Kappa:
Sigma Kappa membership is a lifelong commitment to the shared bond of our values: friendship, service, personal growth, and loyalty. The connection of upholding our values creates an everlasting sisterhood and plays a unique role in the life of each member. Our sisterhood continues to bring members together through many years to share experiences, serve others, and have fun. Each semester, our chapter holds several sisterhood events to strengthen the bonds between our sisters. In Fall 2019, our chapter had a sisterhood event where we ventured to Forest Falls for a one night retreat in the mountains. From roasting marshmallows and zip-lining, our sisters were able to create memories that will last a lifetime. Retreat introduces our new sisters to the mystic bond that is formed from Sigma Kappa’s sisterhood. During the spring, our chapter recently held an event at Purple Pedal, a studio that provides cycling classes. The class features high-intensity music to keep our sisters spinning while motivating and uplifting one another. Although there are many sisterhood activities throughout each semester, our sisters look forward to the life long memories that are created at each event.
Gamma Phi Beta:
Gamma Phi Beta inspires its members to have fun, express themselves, and get out of their comfort zones by hosting amazing sisterhood events such as: surfing lessons, exercise classes, paint nights, and gardening parties! Hope Spires currently serves as the Delta Delta sisterhood chairwoman and has organized a number of events like makeup classes with MAC, and kickboxing classes. Under the social distancing guidelines, she even
has plans for Netflix watch parties and virtual Zoom cooking classes! These sisterhood events help to strengthen the bonds of Gamma Phi Beta by creating lifelong memories for its members.
Alpha Chi Omega:
Alpha Chi Omega hosts many sisterhood events throughout the year, which provide opportunities to strengthen the bonds that are shared through fun and memorable activities. Our sisterhood events are scheduled on different days and times of the week, to accommodate as many sisters as possible, with one planned for almost every week of each semester. While each sisterhood event is focused on building relationships and connecting with our sisters, we are always having fun!
Our annual overnight retreat is an absolute favorite amongst our women, making it the most attended sisterhood event of the year. This event is filled with icebreakers, bonding, ritual reviews, senior appreciation, team building and funny awards. This is the first event that is held after our fall new member class is initiated and is a great celebration to welcome them into our lifetime of sisterhood. Last year, our overnight retreat was held in Big Bear, CA and allowed our sisters to connect through all planned meals, activities, and travel to and from the location.
Other sisterhood events that Alpha Chi Omega hosted last year include “Sister Speed Dating”, our new member class retreat, and observing CSUF’s performance of “Beauty and the Beast” to support our sisters in the theatre department. During our “Galentine’s Day” event, we celebrated the love we have for one another with yummy treats and playing with adorable puppies. We also hosted a 90’s themed “New AXOs on the Block” BBQ as the first sisterhood event with our new class.
Alpha Delta Pi:
In Alpha Delta Pi, our main goal as a chapter is to make each woman feel like they have a home away from home. When you join Alpha Delta Pi, you receive sisters for life. The women in ADPi share their ambitions and accomplish their wildest dreams side by side. We provide opportunities for our members to grow as individuals, scholars, professionals, and as sisters. Every memory made, whether it’s at the American Music Awards, Bachelor Nights, or our Galentine’s Day celebration, is what makes every woman’s time in Alpha Delta Pi so special. We live for each other as we continuously support and encourage our sisters. When you join, Alpha Delta Pi is yours forever." -Sister Emily Acevedo, Sisterhood Chair (Alpha Class '19)
Zeta Tau Alpha:
Zeta Tau Alpha is a women’s fraternity that was founded with a purpose to intensify friendship and foster a spirit of love, which leads to the building of a community of empowered and noble women in the world. Our specific chapter at Cal State Fullerton, Theta Phi, consists of a diverse group of young women who are dedicated to leadership involvement, academic achievement, and continued personal growth. ZTA has a mission to serve others, and while our philanthropy means so much to us, our sisterhood is something that we deeply cherish as well. We celebrate our sisterhood in many ways such as planned events like spa & movie nights at the house, going to pumpkin patches together, or spending the night going laser tagging! Even something as small as bumping into one another on campus and seeing another smiling face! This Fall, Zeta Tau Alpha will celebrate 122 years of sisterhood, service, friendship, and loyalty. We look forward to finding new ways to strengthen our sisterhood and continuing to create an environment for our chapter members to succeed while celebrating love, the greatest of all things.
